The island of Rakatu had been peaceful for as long as anyone could remember. In a land of titans it was a refuge for the weaker and less important, especially the Jardel species. This odd species thrived on Rakatu for millennia on end. Then disaster struck. The form of a huge robot fell over the Endless Ocean and Rakatu. The island was pulverized under the robot's weight, and all presumably died. None ever knew what had become of them, but they were never heard from ever again. There were unconfirmed sightings of strange creatures around in obscure lands inside the huge robot, called Mata Nui, but as of yet, the island's inhabitants are regarded as extinct.
Oh, and one more little tidbit: those who reported the sightings usually were found dead in their quarters soon after.
